Plasma-arc modification of metal surfaces

Plasma-arc cleaning technology is a complex process. It is conducted through the thermal sublimation, gasification and dissociation of organic compounds and oxides from a treated surface. Their ions and excited atoms are then recombined into simple, non-toxic gaseous compounds such as CO2 and H2O.

Air, inert and reducing gases and organic liquids are used as plasma-forming working media in a plasma module.

Opportunities of the technology:

  • Be used instead of and outperform any mechanical and chemical methods industries use to clean surfaces. Most of traditional methods are inefficient and environmentally unfriendly in comparison to plasma technology;
  • In many cases plasma treatment results in the modification and activation of the treated surface. This improves cost and performance characteristics of further manufacturing operations and/or properties of the finished product.
  • Apply a metal coating on metal products for a minimal cost.

Applications of the technology:

  • To all kind of pipes (at the rolling plants, in the field, public utilities etc.) for scale and rust removal and preparation for welding in order to improve the quality of the weld.
  • To hot rolled metal strips, sheets and iron rods or any other non-ferrous metals and alloys.
  • To wire drawing. Significantly improves the quality of the wire.
  • To foil production. Not only cleans the surface of foil but also allows the deposition of various coatings.

Advantages of Plasma Cleaning Technology

1. Multifunctionality:

  • It can be used on almost all metals and alloys;
  • It can be used on products of almost any size, width or thickness;
  • It can be used both indoors and outdoors regardless of the season or ambient temperature;
  • It has the ability to perform simultaneous heat treatment and degassing of the surface;
  • Protective and technological coatings can be applied together with the surface cleaning process.

2. Economical efficiency:

  • Does not require consumables;
  • Installation is very compact;
  • Does not require any foundation.

3. What Makes the Cleaning So Effective:

  • No inclusions or chemicals can contaminate the treated material.
  • The cleaning process reveals surface defects of the treated material;
  • The treated surface becomes highly adhesive that is beneficial to the subsequent coating, drawing and rolling operations;
  • It prevents intergranular corrosion;
  • It increases the corrosion resistance of the material;
  • Cleaning at the atomic level results in improved consumer properties of the treated material.

4. Environmental Friendliness:

  • Plasma modification cleaning is an incredibly green process; the by-products of plasma-arc cleaning are carbon dioxide and water molecules, both harmless gaseous compounds.
